American

Traveling with children and infants
General
guidelines-
·
Any children under the age of 18 need an age proof document
(such as a birth certificate) for travel on AA flights.
·
Families with a lap child (under two years old) can use early
boarding service.
·
Only one diaper bag as carry-on is allowed, per child.
·
Choose seat carefully, that every child under the age of 15
will sit next to an adult.
Infants (under two years)
·
American Airlines allows infants as young as two days old to
travel on its flights. However, if a passenger is traveling with an infant less
than seven days old, he/she will need to fill out a passenger medical form
before your flight. An American Airlines representative will send the form
directly to the physician chosen by the passenger.
·
Infants must be accompanied by a person 16 years old or
older, or by a parent in the same cabin.
·
Bassinets are only available on 767-300, 777-200, 777-300 and
787 aircraft and work on a first-come, first-serve basis.
·
Bassinets are not available in Business/ First cabin classes.
Children (2 years or older)
Children
older than the age of two are required to have their own seat to travel on AA
flights. However, children younger than the age of 5 are not allowed to travel
alone under any circumstances.
If
passengers don’t choose seats in Main Cabin or Basic Economy, the airline will
automatically assign seats after reservation. So, children younger than 15
years sits next to at least one adult they’re traveling with.
Seating options for children:
Lap
Child: A parent or any person older than 15 years old may hold the infant in
their lap. This information must be include during making reservation by
calling American Airlines reservations.
In
a reserved seat: If an infant is traveling in their seat, a ticket is required.
If the infant is not able to travel able to sit upright in their seat without
assistance during taxi, take-off, landing and whenever the 'fasten seatbelt'
sign is on. In this case, a safety seat approved by the Federal Aviation
Administration is required.
Acceptable safety seats
Most
safety seats that use in vehicles are acceptable for use in aircraft. The
safety seat must have restrained straps, a sold back and a label that
authenticates its approval for use on an airplane.
The
label must indicate that the seat is manufactured according to the standards of
the United Nations.

The safety seat can’t use in the rows on either side of an
exit row or in an exit row.

Windows are most preferred
·
The infant must remain in the safety seat during take-off,
landing and whenever the 'fasten seatbelt' sign is on.
